چکیده

For managing the freshwater in worldwide coastal aquifers, it is imperative to understand hydrogeochemical processes and flow patterns mixing freshwater/saltwater zone. The Egyptian Nile Delta aquifer a typical example. management of seawater intrusion (SWI) requires detailed investigations wedge dynamic Thus, multidisciplinary approach was applied based on holistic hydrogeochemical, statistical analysis, DC resistivity measurements investigate lateral vertical changes groundwater characteristics undergoing salinization stressor. results cross plots ionic deviations major ions, hydrochemical facies evolution diagram (HFE-D), index (SMI) were integrated with show status SWI where phase predominates ~2/3 study are (~70 km radius) compositional thresholds Na, Mg, Cl, SO4 600, 145, 1200, 600 mg/L, respectively, indicating that wells higher concentrations than these affected by SWI. Moreover, demonstrate efficiency combining from heatmap provide large-scale characterization natural anthropogenic activities controlling support decision-makers for long-term groundwater.

Coastal Erosion Due to Seawater Intrusion into Groundwater Aquifers

Problem Statement: In general, the drinking water systems sourced from ground water (GW) contains chemicals at double the current maximum contaminant levels (MCL) of colloids. However, due to increasing demand of water, groundwater may be subjected to over-exploitation and the natural equilibrium is thus disturbed. A steady-state condition is established between seawater and freshwater in a coa...

Abstraction, desalination and recharge method to control seawater intrusion into unconfined coastal aquifers

In this study, abstraction, desalination and recharge method and SEAWAT numerical model are used to investigate seawater intrusion repulsion in a hypothetical two-dimensional coastal aquifer to understand the relation of seawater intrusion with abstraction, desalination and recharge parameters (i.e. abstraction/recharge rate, wells distance and depth). Abstraction, desalination and recharge con...

Development of a groundwater quality index for seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers

Coastal aquifers are increasingly threatened by seawater intrusion due to increased urbanization, groundwater exploitation, and global sea-level rise. Pattern diagrams, which constitute the outcome of several hydro-geochemical processes, have traditionally been used to characterize vulnerability to seawater intrusion. However, the formats of such diagrams do not facilitate the geospatial analys...

Seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers: Effects of seasonal variations in extraction and recharge rates

Over-exploitation of coastal aquifers causes seawater intrusion and eventually contamination of groundwater wells in many parts of the world. Artificial recharge of treated wastewater can be used to avoid or control seawater intrusion. A common characteristic of many coastal areas in Southern Europe is that most of the annual water demand, and hence the amount of water that can be used for arti...

Monitoring of Seawater Intrusion in Coastal Aquifers: Basics and Local Concerns

Monitoring of seawater intrusion is essential to determine and predict groundwater deterioration, and assess other managerial activities in coastal aquifers. Monitoring involves designing strategy and methodology of field surveys for choosing the most effective means towards obtaining the most reliable possible data. The monitoring of seawater intrusion may consist of direct and indirect method...
